Mike is in his element: Surrounded by happy family.
It doesn't matter that he's elbow-deep in dishwater with a stack of plates and flatware nearly taller than he is to his left, his family is here and safe and happy, and that's all that really matters.

I did get asked recently when your ba and I were getting married.

A picture of Rue pops up in the front of Sallie's mind. Folks don't live together in her world without the getting hitched part.

Mike bites the inside of his lips in an effort to fight the laugh that very nearly escaped.

"If I'm honest, they don't do it a whole lot in my world either."

And it's never done in my where and when, so...

And then the idea of being married (again) just seems so...

"So that's probably the big one that happened."

Never? The future is a very weird place, which isn't to say that New York is the poster city for normalcy.

"I can see why that'd stick out."

"I mean, Splinter's only been human-shaped for such a short time, and gorram tiny children giving my brain thoughts..."

Mike's eyes widen.



"....you've been considering it..." he looks towards the kitchen door, turning his head to try and overhear some of the ongoing conversation from the living room, before leaning closer for a stage whisper.

"YOU HAVE,HAVEN'T YOU?!"

Sallie's mind goes almost static-grey at Mike's reaction.






Timid as hell, "Is that such a bad thing, to consider every path?"

At that reaction, Mike wipes his hands on the apron tied around his waist, turns so that he's facing Sallie directly, and just looks at her.

LOOKS.

In a harried sort of whisper, Sallie thinks dont tell your ba before "What am I supposed to do with that look, huh? What?"

"Revel in its extraordinary handsomeness to the point where you feel compelled to reveal your deepest darkest secrets..."

...about marrying my father.

It crossed my mind, Mike. It hasn't gone farther than that in any sort o' serious way.

Would you say this crossing-of-which-you-think is a quick jaunt across the street before the Walk sign changes? Or is it more a long lingering stroll of contemplation?

"What? Um, the second one, I think."

[mnt_mike]

"IiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinteresting."

"That's one o' the creepier noises you made today. Even after the sweet potato incident."

[mnt_mike]

"I don't care what Leo says, that Peter Lorre impression was not only spot on, but totally in good taste."

"I don't even need to get the reference to know that was odd as hell."

It makes for a good laugh though, and a good distraction.

"...Wanna get back to washin' up?"

[mnt_mike]

Mike turns, gazing at the stack of dishes yet to be rinsed, let alone washed. He whimpers.

"...yes?"

Sallie thinks for a second about her options. If she takes over, then Mike can go find other things to be distracted about, and --

"Nah, I can get it done. Go, everyone's back out in the sittin' room."

[mnt_mike]

He begins to untie the apron from around his waist.

"Ooooh, and if Splinter's not in the room I can totally give the guys a heads up that you'll be coming to ask for his hand..."

He's kidding.





Probably.

"Oh my god, Mike, I will filet you like a fish if you so --- "

[mnt_mike]

There is laughing. OH how there is laughing.
There's also leaping straight up into the air, catching the very top of the cabinets, and ninjing his way towards the kitchen door so as to avoid being smacked by Sallie in the process.

He hopes.

Neither the laughing, nor Mike's attempted escape from the kitchen goes unnoticed by the family in the next room.

"I got this."

Raph appears in the doorway to the kitchen.

"Everythin' okay in here?"
There's genuine concern in his voice for Sallie.
Less so for Mike, who he unceremoniously pulls down from the ceiling, causing the smaller man to land in a heap on the floor with a rather emphatic ooof.

Sallie always knew she liked Raph for a reason.

"Better now that cooler heads are prevailing, thank you."

Please don't, Mike. Please? We can talk later about this if needs be.

Raph looks confused at first.
No one has ever accused him of having a "cooler head", let alone that cooler head prevailing at anything.

Mike notices his brother's expression and snickers.

I think you broke his brain.

Raph doesn't need to know exactly what Mike is thinking to know exactly what that laugh of his means. Which is why he lifts up a foot and threatens to kick until the baby of the family scurries into the living room.

"No problem. See he finally got to you, huh?"
